Program:  Newcomers is pleased to have as our November speaker Dominic  Armato, a prominent local food blogger who has joined The Arizona Republic and azcentral.com as dining critic.  Armato replaces Howard Seftel, who retired in April.  The focus of his talk is sure to interest our luncheon attendees, both the public and our members, as many Newcomers activities involve dining at local restaurants.

According to Armato, in all cities, there exists some degree of space between what its chefs are capable of producing and what the dining public is willing to buy. But the issue is perhaps especially pronounced in Phoenix, where financial pressures often drive restaurants towards unambitious menus and cause some of our best homegrown talent to leave for other cities. How did this come about, and what can we do to narrow this gap and create an atmosphere where our culinary craftspeople can spread their wings and Phoenix eaters can reap the benefits of an even more mature, vibrant restaurant scene?

Raffle/Charity: Arizonans for Children has been chosen as November's charity. AFC relies solely upon the generosity and commitment of community members to provide critical services to foster youth  whose fragile lives have endured abuse, neglect and abandonment. AFC gratefully accepts financial and material donations to support their programs or operating expenses.  AFC Donation List
